Status of the Comic, Otakon and an Idea

Hey again, everyone! First off, I want to say thank you to everyone for all the well-wishes! And my sympathies to any of you who have caught the cold that caused all this… it seems to have been raging through the US and Canada (and probably a great many other places, judging by how easily it seems to spread) the last couple of months or so ;_; I am still in recovery mode here… over the fever (it lasted six days and topped out around 102.4 ;_;) and slowly trying to get caught up on work and get back to normal.

The important part is that I’m not contagious and as such will be at Otakon in Baltimore this weekend, Booth F02 in the Artist Alley ^-^

The other important part is that for the past week and a half, the series has been paused and I like to take advantage of pauses to do some experimenting. So for the next month or so, I would like to play with the update schedule and try posting Picatrix not as a tri-weekly webcomic but in a chapter a month updates. It’s an idea I had tried once before with terrible results (but then, I should have known better than to have tried over a month when I was moving into a new house that had been abandoned for years XD).

Now that things have finally settled down (no more finding wild animals in the kitchen!) I would like to give it another go and see if I can improve Picatrix in the process… to be able to rely less on text to keep the storyline moving and more on image and action (something I’ve had a very tricky time with… action scenes take a lot of space but don’t necessarily move the story ahead very quickly and with only three pages a week, things can get boring fast XD), to avoid the choppiness in the storyline that comes from a choppy update schedule, to get the pages peer-reviewed before they’re posted…

Well, I think you get the idea ^-^; That’s not to say that I’m going to disappear for a month. I’ve cleared out an old livejournal account here to use as a working blog (there’s nothing in it as I type this out now. I’ll post some pictures this afternoon ^-^) and I’ll keep status updates here in the news box as well as making use of my much-neglected twitter account to post updates. I would be happy to hear opinions about the change and I’ve put up a new poll to make leaving feedback easier. Also, please feel free to use the Formspring box for any questions ^-^

Alright, September 1st is the date to look out for the next chapter. Before that time, expect the website to get a very different look as I try to accommodate a new posting style (I would like the site to display pages as an open book with two pages visible at once if I can figure out how to do it ^-^;). Okay, let’s see how this goes!

Still Out Sick ;_;

Hey again, everyone. Well, I’m officially out for 10 days with pneumonia. Crud… figured this cold wasn’t clearing up right ;_; Okay, ten days… that would put the next update at the 26th. Sorry about this everybody!

No page Wednesday, two Friday

Hi everyone! I think I finally have to take a sick day to try to get over this cold that I’ve had for the past three weeks (three weeks! I’ve never had a cold that long!). Since I’ve caught it, it’s been taking me double the usual time to finish comic pages and I’ve gotten super-behind in just about everything else (sorry everyone who has emailed me and are STILL waiting for a response!) so I’m going to take Wednesday to get caught up and rest a bit and return Friday with two pages to make up for Wednesday’s.

Saturday Update Reminder

Hi everyone! Just a quick reminder that there will be a Saturday page this week. I’ll also get a proper newspost up with Anime Expo highlights and all that fun stuff ^-^

Vacation, Anime Expo, Con Report

Hi everyone! Lots of news today ^-^

Okay, first off, I’m going to take a little break so no new comics until next Wednesday. However, I’ll add Saturday updates to July’s schedule (except for July 31) to make up for the missed pages. A full week of a bad cold plus several near-misses by tornadoes followed by a hit on Saturday (not too much damage to the house but it took down some of the trees in my yard ;_;) have killed my ability to get ahead before leaving for Anime Expo ;_; And speaking of which….

I’ll be at Anime Expo in Los Angeles this weekend, in the Artist Alley at Booth E08 so if any of you are planning on attending, stop by and say hi!

That makes convention number two for me thus far this year… the first was MAC (Minneapolis Anime Convention) the weekend before last where I got to meet a lot of really awesome people including fellow webcomic artist Jilly Foo so I wanted to give a shout out to her and her comics Demon Eater and The Planet Closest to Heaven. I got a TPCTH book and I did some fanart for the series (Click here to see it) ^-^
And here’s my book ^-^
TPCTH!

So yay, that was really fun ^-^

And one last little bit of news. I got the go-ahead to start a Kickstarter project to help fund the printing of the first Picatrix graphic novel ^-^ I’ll set that up when I get back from Anime Expo but that will replace the donation bar and will also function as a method of taking pre-orders for the book. More info about that coming next week ^-^

Okay, I think that’s all the news for now. I’ll see some of you at AX and the rest when I get back!
